What is paid inclusion?

Paid inclusion is a way of having websites indexed by search engines for a fee. Paid inclusion has several advantages over manual, long-term familiarization with the search engine algorithm. With paid inclusion, there is no waiting time, the websites are indexed immediately and also checked more frequently. So if optimizations or adjustments have been made, they are detected more quickly by search engine crawlers. However, paid inclusion has no direct influence on the pure search engine ranking. This would otherwise be a distortion of competition.

Paid inclusion is above all a tool that is worthwhile for very fresh and young sites that are not yet listed on Google or other search engines.

How did Paid Inclusion come about?

In the early days of the Internet, it was completely normal to pay money for indexing on search engines. All the well-known search engines offered paid inclusion, except for the most popular in the world. Google, on the other hand, very quickly released Adsense, creating a new advertising measure that is still very popular with companies today. The introduction of Adsense is also thought to have helped Google gain ground on other competitors. Bing and Ask had completely discontinued their paid inclusion programs by 2004. Most companies now rely on organic reach through targeted search engine optimization.

What are Adsense and Adwords?

With Adsense, Google offers a type of advertising that is not directly related to the search results for a search query. With Google Adsense, you can advertise on external, third-party sites. The algorithm takes into account the content on the target website and only places ads on pages that appeal to a similar target group. Adsense is an effective advertising tool that can be used to attract paid traffic to a website in a target group-oriented manner.

With Google Adwords, you can actually secure a kind of place in the search results. However, these are not organic search results, but an ad that is displayed before the organic top hits. Google Adwords ads can be placed for a selected keyword. The prices for Google Adwords depend on the popularity of the keyword and can vary greatly.

Has Google introduced paid inclusion?

In fact, Google reintroduced paid inclusion in 2012 with the launch of Google Shopping, Google Flights and Google Hotel Finder. This move was criticized from many sides, as paid inclusion reduces the reliability of search results and companies that only rely on organic, natural traffic.
