Cross linking is a popular option in off-page search engine optimization, but excessive linking can also be harmful, as Google classifies these patterns as spam. Analyzing the link profile can therefore be necessary in order to avoid a penalty from Google.
What is cross linking?
Cross linking refers to links from different websites. In principle, links are an important indicator in search engine optimization. However, particular attention should be paid to high-quality backlinks, as only in this way can the metrics be positively influenced (especially in terms of authority and popularity). Reciprocal linking (page A to page B and page B to page A) can provide a higher chance of resuming the ranking as quickly as possible. However, if cross-linking is carried out on a massive scale, Google will usually penalize it, which can also result in removal from the search index. When cross-linking, it is therefore important that this is done in excellent quality – this therefore means that quality always comes before quantity.
