Initial situation
We started with a comprehensive audit, focusing in particular on technical problems, internal linking and the reactivation of old backlinks.
In this context, we also noticed that very high-quality backlinks of a post that no longer existed led to a 404 error page. As a result, a lot of link juice was lost that could have been used for other purposes.
We also noticed that some texts needed a revision, especially the inclusion of missing keywords / expansion of the texts in terms of the right length and missing unique content. The client had already established that the store lacked authority in the form of backlinks, which we were able to confirm in our analysis.
Our approach
After drawing up the catalog of measures, we worked out a distribution of tasks. In this case, the client has good SEO knowledge himself & wanted to implement some things himself.
Our focus here was particularly on working out the internal linking structure and on off-page SEO with the acquisition of new, very high-quality backlinks. To this end, we carried out a competitor analysis and recorded specific KPIs.

This includes the link gap to the competition, how many links in which authority area the store is missing, which backlinks the competition has but your own store does not and, above all, the link building speed including type backlinks.
The result
After the first 3 weeks, we were already able to achieve significant increases in visibility by fixing the 404 backlinks. We redirected the old blog post to a relevant category page that lists the products covered in the blog post. The category previously ranked 14th for the keyword with a search volume of 14,000 queries per month. Shortly after the redirect, we secured 3rd place – until today.
By building the links as well as the technical errors, text revisions & internal linking, the store has increased its SI from 1.9 to 6.1. More than tripling the traffic – even with a high amount of traffic per month before. In the meantime, there has been a small correction to an SI of 5.4 – which is still respectable and absolutely normal due to the high visibility.
Note:
The customer has already brought his 2nd store to us after 3 months. Term also 12 months. Here, too, we were able to increase the SI from 0.27 to over 1. The focus here was also on building relevant links and fixing technical errors.
